MNP-Mobile Number Portability

Mobile number portability(MNP) has been introduced by Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC) of Malaysian Government. Mobile users of Klang Valley of Malaysia can starts to reserve their mobile numbers to switch between different operators.

What is this MNP all about?

It is just a service that allows mobile users to switch networks(operators) without changing their mobile numbers. (lets say change celcom to digi; or digi to maxis)

Currently, it offers only to prepaid mobiles users but postpaid users can starts enjoying this service after two weeks later. Of course, there is a fee charge by operators if anyone wants to switch to other operator and retained their mobile numbers. Many other countries like Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, UK and etc has implemented this facilities long time ago. Now, Malaysian can enjoy opting for their favourite good price operator without worrying of informing their contacts of their number changed.

What’s the advantage?

Users can shop for the best plan :p and would not be reluctant to change numbers because of the worry on informing their contacts.

What’s the disadvantage?

Users no longer know the prefix is from which networks(operators). Some operators charge offnet and on net charges differently. Meaning charging higher rates for different operators. (Example: Maxis call celcom (off-net)higher rate than Maxis call maxis (on-net)). Thus, Choose the simple plan…so no worries rite??

When will it be fully launch?

According to the star, by end of October(whole malaysia). By september is only for Klang Valley.

Yes, got to agree with the best plan point. For years I am stuck with Maxis just because I want to keep my numbers and there are too many people to contact if I am to change my number.

Now, Digi’s 150 plan’s suit my monthly usage the best. Most importantly, the 11 friends and family pretty much cover ALL my most frequently called numbers. No more reasons for me to stick with Maxis, if you ask me.

So, are you porting to Digi too? Haha!

Nope, i am all along in Digi plan…cz having a fren giving offer to port to Maxis but after analyzing it….still staying put is the best choice. After all, Digi change the way telecommunication plans works…
